Road preservation projects on Hwy 34 and Hwy 78 begin next week
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – Motorists can expect lane closures and delays on Highway 34, between Dunvilla and Barnesville, and Highway 78, between Battle Lake and Perham, next week. Contractor crews will be completing preventative maintenance sealcoat projects that will extend the life of the pavement surfaces.
The project will begin Monday, June 4 on Highway 34, on the section of the road between Highway 59 in Dunvilla to the junction of Highway 9 in Barnesville. The work will last approximately three days, weather permitting.
Another crew will be doing the same work on Highway 78 from Perham to Battle Lake, starting as early as Tuesday, June 5. The work is expected to be completed by Friday, June 8, weather permitting.
During these projects, a pilot car and flaggers will control traffic, and motorists should plan for daily lane closures in the areas where crews are working. Drivers are urged to slow down and be alert for loose gravel and oil spraying in these areas.
Once the sealcoat portion of the projects are complete, crews will return a couple of weeks later to paint road striping. That work will be done under traffic.
MnDOT urges motorists to always drive with caution, and reminds them to slow down in the work zone and never enter a roadway that has been blocked with barriers or cones.
