Hwy 28/29 new detour in Glenwood begins May 17
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – Motorists on Highway 28/29 in Glenwood will encounter a new detour starting Thursday, May 17 while crews begin removing pavement, and replacing water, sewer, storm sewer, curb and gutter.
The project is part of the Glenwood Complete Streets project. This second phase of the three-phase project involves closing Minnesota Avenue from Dairy Queen to the Eagle Bank drive-in. All traffic will be directed to North Lakeshore Drive and First Avenue South to Franklin Street. From Franklin Street, traffic will have access to Highways 28/29/104.
There will be no parking allowed on either side of Fifth Street NW. Parking will only be allowed on the south side of First Avenue South (park side) from Lakeshore Drive to Second Street SW. On Lakeshore Drive, south of Minnesota Avenue, parking will only be allowed on the west side (lake side) of the street.
This phase of the project is expected to last through early July. Upon completion, motorists will experience a smoother road surface; pedestrian accessibility improvements, including upgraded sidewalks and curb ramps; utility upgrades; and flood mitigations on Highway 28 near the Pope County Fairgrounds.
