Hwy 371 Hackensack to Backus detour ends Oct. 16
St. Cloud, Minn. – Motorists who travel between Hackensack and Backus will now find the most direct route between the two cities open. Crews removed the detour, and opened the newly reconstructed lanes of Highway 371 between Hackensack and Backus, just before 4 p.m. today, Tuesday, Oct. 16.
Motorists must still continue to navigate with caution, as segments of Highway 371 between Hackensack and Backus will be reduced to a single lane intermittently through late-October. Flaggers and a pilot car will allow one-way, alternating traffic through the daily work zones. Motorists approaching any work zone should slow down, be prepared to stop, and follow the pilot car through the work zone.
The traffic changes are part of a major project to reconstruct Highway 371 between Highway 87/Washburn Avenue in Backus and Cass County Road 40 in Hackensack, replace underground pipes and make other improvements.
When complete in late-October, the project will result in a smoother ride with a long-life pavement along 7.5 miles of Highway 371, extend the life of the roadway and improve drainage in the area.
