Hwy 371 Hackensack to Backus lanes close intermittently beginning Sept. 4
BAXTER, Minn. – Motorists on Highway 371 between Backus and Hackensack will encounter construction crews and potential delays as segments of the road are reduced to a single lane during daytime hours beginning Tuesday, Sept. 4.
Flaggers and a pilot car will allow one-way, alternating traffic through the daily work zones. Motorists approaching the work zone must slow down and be prepared to stop, obey the flagger, and follow the pilot car through the work zone. Motorists entering a work zone from driveways or roads that intersect Highway 371 must wait for the pilot car to pass, then follow it through the work zone.
After Labor Day, Highway 371 will be closed to through traffic between the northern Highway 371/Highway 87 intersection in north Backus, and County Road 40 in Hackensack. Motorists should follow the signed detour along Highway 87, County Road 64, County Road 19 and County Road 40, or seek their own alternate routes.
The closures and future detour are needed while crews complete a project to improve Highway 371 between Highway 87 in Backus and Cass County Road 40 in Hackensack. The project will reconstruct the roadway, replace underground pipes and make other improvements. The project will result in a smoother ride with a long-life pavement along 7.5 miles of Highway 371, extend the life of the roadway and improve drainage in the area.
