Open house to discuss future Highway 12 plans in Cokato November 9
Public insight welcomed
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The public is invited to attend an open house to share information and gather feedback on the proposed design for a 2020 improvement project that will resurface and potentially redesign Highway 12 through downtown Cokato in Wright County.
The open house will be held Thursday, November 9, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. upstairs at Cokato City Hall, 255 Broadway Ave S. All comments and feedback received will be used to make future decisions on the project’s final design.
The 2020 project will resurface Highway 12 between Sunset Avenue NW and Seventh Street SE. Various safety improvements are also being explored to reduce traffic speeds and improve safety for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians. Potential design elements include enhanced pedestrian crossings, bicycle lanes separated from traffic with a buffer space, narrower driving lanes, and a roundabout at Broadway Avenue. The proposed safety improvements are meant to address concerns identified in the 2015 Highway 12 road safety audit.
After hosting a successful booth at this year’s Corn Carnival, this will be MnDOT’s second public event for this project. The open house will include information shared at the Corn Carnival regarding current safety concerns and potential solutions. There will be maps and visual displays and the Highway 12 project team will be available to answer questions and explain design components in detail.
