Expect delays on Hwy 24 in Clearwater May 8-11

ST.CLOUD, Minn. – Motorists who travel Highway 24 between Clearwater and Clear Lake will encounter daytime delays while the road is reduced to a single beginning Monday, May 8.

The lane closures will occur between County Road 75 in Clearwater and County Road 8/River Road SE, located east of Clearwater, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The closures will be complete by 5 p.m. Thursday, May 11.

Flaggers will allow one-way, alternating traffic through the daily work zones. Motorists who travel Highway 24 through Clearwater should be prepared to slow down and stop, obey the flaggers, and move over for crews and equipment while navigating the work zone.

The closures are part of the Highway 24 bridge replacement project in Clearwater, and are needed while crews construct temporary lanes to carry traffic later in the project.

When complete in summer 2018, the new Highway 24 Clearwater bridge project will:

  • Replace the existing 57-year old Highway 24 bridge with a new two-lane bridge with wide shoulders and a multipurpose trail.
  • Preserve an important river crossing that serves local and regional travel, including heavy summertime tourism traffic.
  • Improve local utilities.
