Open house on Dec. 10 for Highway 197 corridor study in Bemidji
BEMIDJI, Minn. – Residents and business owners are invited to an open house on Monday, Dec. 10 to take part in early planning efforts to address safety and multimodal traffic issues on Highway 197 between Bemidji Avenue and Gillett Drive in Bemidji.
The open house will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Minnesota Department of Transportation headquarters building, 3920 Highway 2 West, Bemidji.
A corridor study is currently being conducted by KLJ, which is the first phase in the development of this project. As part of identifying the existing issues, participants will have the opportunity to provide insights on traffic safety, mobility, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, roadway maintenance, landscaping or other items of concern.
MnDOT is also seeking volunteers that are interested in taking a more active role in the planning study to become members of the community review panel. This group would meet monthly through the spring to help develop, evaluate and prioritize project alternatives.
The final safety enhancements selected for construction will be based upon the results of the study, along with input provided by the community review panel and comments from the public. A construction project is not currently scheduled, it is anticipated that it would take place in the next five to eight years.
