Three-day detour of Kennedy Bridge in East Grand Forks begins Thursday
BEMIDJI, Minn. — The Hwy 2 Kennedy Bridge will be closed for three days beginning at 4 a.m. on Thu, Aug. 31 through 4 a.m. Sun, Sept. 3. The closure will allow crews to pour concrete for the west deck approach span on Thursday, along with time for it to cure over the weekend.
During the closure, traffic will be detoured to Demers Ave. and South Washington St. Motorists should plan ahead and expect delays on the Sorlie and Point Bridges, especially during peak travel times.
The Kennedy Bridge was built in 1963 and currently serves 23,000 vehicles per day. The $15.66 million project is a joint design of the Minnesota Department of Transportation, North Dakota Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration.
Along with preserving the historic nature of the bridge, the project will improve safety for motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists. To learn more about this project, go to MnDOT’s project page: www.mndot.gov/d2/projects/kennedybridge/.
