I-35 bridge painting project begins Sept. 5 in Duluth

Duluth, Minn. – A bridge painting project begins Wednesday, Sept. 5 in Duluth. The first bridge to be painted will be at 37 ½ Avenue West over Interstate 35. This work will require the closure of the northbound and southbound right lanes of I-35. The ramps from southbound I-35 to 40th Avenue West and from 40th Avenue West to northbound I-35 will remain open.

Traffic congestion and back-ups during peak hours is expected. Motorists are encouraged to use the “Zipper merge” to keep traffic flowing.

The painting at the 37 ½ Avenue West bridge is scheduled for completion in late-September. Additional bridges will be painted as part of the project, which will be completed in summer 2019.
