Tunnel cleaning project scheduled on I-35 and Hwy 61 in St. Louis County
DULUTH, Minn. — The Minnesota Department of Transportation has scheduled a tunnel cleaning project that will begin Sunday, May 7. The project is scheduled during evening hours to minimize traffic interference. Motorists should watch for work zones and follow message board directions.
The northbound tunnels on I-35 in Duluth will be cleaned Sunday, May 7, from 6:30 p.m. to Monday, May 8, 4 a.m.
The southbound tunnels on I-35 in Duluth will be cleaned Monday, May, May 8, 6:30 p.m. to Tuesday, May 9, 4 a.m.
Both directions of the Lafayette and Silver Cliff Tunnels will be cleaned Tuesday, May 9, 6:30 p.m. to Wednesday, May 10, 4 a.m.
The tunnels are cleaning once annually. Cleaning the tunnels improves safety by brightening the tunnel walls. During the project crews also check and replace lights.
Motorists should use caution driving in the project area for their safety and the safety of construction workers.
