Utility policy and manual
We recently revised the MnDOT Utility Accommodation on Highway Right of Way Policy and updated the MnDOT Utility Accommodation and Coordination Manual (PDF). The policy, which the Federal Highway Administration requires of all states to receive federal dollars, consists of both a policy document and a Utility Accommodation Section that outlines the technical components of utility accommodation. Utility owners must fulfill the requirements of both the policy document and Utility Accommodation Section.
A federal legal requirement, Buy America requires utility owners under certain circumstances to buy and use steel that is manufactured in America. It applies to utility relocations and new utility installations that are related to highway construction projects. Read more about Buy America and utility requirements.
Technical Memorandum for local agencies
We recently updated the Tech Memo (PDF) on utility coordination and accommodation on local agency projects. It now outlines the application of the utility accommodation policy, as well as application of the utility coordination process, for local agencies.
Permit name change
The Application for Utility Permit on Trunk Highway Right of Way form name has been changed to the Application for Utility Accommodation on Trunk Highway Right of Way (PDF). This form applies to almost all utility placements and relocations.
Each year, MnDOT districts host annual meetings with utility owners to review upcoming projects, share information, and discuss relevant utility topics.
