What we do

The Land Information System and Right of Way Mapping Unit delivers essential maps of the current right of way and boundary history for effective right of way acquisition and land management administration.  Two functional groups exist within the Unit to enable it to carry out its mission:

Research and Support Group

The Research and Support Group facilitates the creation and management of an intelligent spatial transportation parcel database of R/W maps and related information to support Department decision-making. The group carries out this GIS/LIS and CAD work by researching, planning, and developing applications, formulating content standards and process changes, performing data conversions, providing training, and through the judicious use of consultant expertise. The goal is to maximize the value of a web-based, self-help environment for access to the spatial data to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the State’s land management operations.

Map Maintenance and Development Group

The Map Maintenance and Development Group works in coordination with transportation district staff to compile the various source materials necessary to develop, maintain, and distribute the State's transportation R/W maps required for land acquisition, management, and disposal operations. The group ensures the mapped right of way record and its history accurately portrays the disposition of lands relevant to the Department's needs.
