Connecting the strategic plan to our vision
Planning takes a variety of forms to address long and short term needs by establishing direction and priorities for the programs we deliver to the public. The Statewide Transportation Policy Plan and modal plans establish a transportation vision, supporting policies and strategies to assist MnDOT and its partners in focusing investments and services over the next 20 years. Operational and specialty plans such as the Strategic Highway Safety Plan or Highway System Operations Plan address short-term priorities at a tactical level in specific functional areas.
Strategic planning lies between these. While it looks to the future, a strategic plan recognizes that the world is continually changing and that regular review and adjustment is needed in the short-term in order to achieve long-term goals.
MnDOT's strategic vision sets the direction for this strategic plan. The strategic plan identifies desired outcomes, measures and flagship initiatives for each of the five strategic directions- safety, mobility, innovation, leadership and transparency. This plan is a tool to help us align our work with our vision for a safe, efficient and sustainable transportation system.
