Old Beach Road bridge to be demolished week of Nov. 4
Overnight truck hauling along Hwy 36 continues through November
Demolition of the old Beach Road bridge in Oak Park Heights will begin the week of Nov. 4, weather permitting, and occur during daytime shifts for about two weeks.
The new Beach Road bridge is on schedule to open by the end of November. Crews are completing the sidewalk and barrier rail as well as paving the bridge deck.
Overnight truck hauling
Residents may see and hear trucks hauling dirt within the project limits near the Highway 36/Highway 95 junction through the end of November.
The vast majority of dirt hauling will stay inside the construction zone while crews excavate to lower the westbound Highway 36 lanes. However, it is possible that crews will have excess dirt to haul to Miller Pit in Baytown township.
Safety standards require lights and back-up beepers at the dumpsite. Overnight work hours will occur 7 p.m. - 5 a.m., Monday through Saturday.
South Frontage Road closure
Motorists who use the S. Frontage Road in Oak Park Heights will experience a two-thirds mile closure for two weeks beginning Nov. 6, weather permitting.
The S. Frontage Road will be closed from just east of Phil’s Tara Hideaway to Stagecoach Trail. Access from Peller/Penrose avenues to the S. Frontage Road will also be closed. Visit the project website to view a detour map.
Crews will tie a water main below the S. Frontage Road. While the road is closed, crews will also complete curb and gutter construction where S. Frontage Road and Stagecoach Trail meet.
This closure affects local traffic only, because the new ramp directly between Highway 36 and Highway 95 opened Oct. 28.
More information on continued impacts, detours and other updates is available on the project website.
Bridge foundations work
As of Oct. 30, 38 of the 40 caissons, four of the 10 footings and three of the 10 columns are filled with concrete. Pier 9 north and Pier 9 south are complete. Crews continue 24-hour work Monday through Saturday. Non-working hours are from 7 a.m. Sunday to 7 a.m. Monday.
Bridge foundations work in the St. Croix River is on track to be complete by early 2014. Track the progress of foundations construction on the project website, updated every Wednesday.
The Minnesota approach project will be complete by fall 2014. The new St. Croix Crossing bridge and Wisconsin approach project will be complete by fall 2016. When all work is finished, motorists will have smoother highway pavement surfaces, improved flow at intersections, an improved frontage road system in Oak Park Heights and a new river crossing between Minnesota and Wisconsin. All of this will occur while maintaining or restoring the area’s cultural, historic and environmental resources.
