Major Hwy 36/Hwy 95 traffic switch to occur Oct. 27-28

Pickett Avenue 24-hour closure set for Oct. 22-23

Motorists should avoid the construction zone at the intersection of Highway 36 and Highway 95 from Sunday, Oct. 27, at 6 p.m. to Monday, Oct. 28, at 5 a.m. During this time, crews will complete a major traffic switch as part of St. Croix Crossing construction.

Motorists should expect delays throughout the construction zone. Southbound Highway 95 traffic will use a signed detour. Northbound Highway 95 traffic will not have a detour. Crews will work diligently to move traffic as quickly as possible.

If weather prevents the traffic switch on Sunday night, it will occur Monday, Oct. 28, at 9 p.m. to Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 5 a.m., and throughout the week, if necessary.

When the traffic switch is complete, motorists will experience:

  • New ramp with a traffic signal directly between Highway 36 and Highway 95
  • New Highway 95 lanes—with portions of single-lane and two-lane traffic in each direction
  • Single-lane traffic on the newly constructed eastbound lanes of Highway 36

24-hour Pickett Avenue closure Oct. 22-23

Pickett Avenue between Highway 95 and 56th Street N. will be closed from 7 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, to 7 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, weather permitting.

Motorists should follow the signed detour. Highway 95 through traffic will not be affected by this closure. Crews will connect Pickett Avenue to the new Highway 95 lanes.

Lookout Trail closure set to begin Oct. 21

The two-week closure of Lookout Trail in Oak Park Heights is set to begin Monday, Oct. 21, weather permitting. Through traffic should follow the signed detour, and area residents will always be able to access their homes. Crews will complete utility work during this closure.

Access road work near WIS 64

Work continues on the new access trail next to WIS 64 near the site of the new St. Croix Crossing bridge. All tree clearing is complete. Grading for the new access trail and storm water drainage system will begin Monday, Oct. 21. Crews will plant additional trees after this work is complete. Motorists should not experience any impacts with this work.

Bridge foundations work

Bridge foundations work in the St. Croix River is on track to be complete by early 2014. Completing all foundations at Piers 8-12 requires 40 caissons, 10 footings and 10 columns. Track the progress of foundations construction on the project website, updated every Wednesday. As of Oct. 16, 31 of the 40 caissons, two of the 10 footings and the first of the 10 columns are filled with concrete.

Crews continue 24-hour work Monday through Saturday. Non-working hours are from 7 a.m. Sunday to 7 a.m. Monday.

More information on continued impacts, detours and other updates is available on the project website.

Project information

The Minnesota approach project will be complete by fall 2014. The new St. Croix Crossing bridge and Wisconsin approach project will be complete by fall 2016. When all work is finished, motorists will have smoother highway pavement surfaces, improved flow at intersections, an improved frontage road system in Oak Park Heights and a new river crossing between Minnesota and Wisconsin. All of this will occur while maintaining or restoring the area’s cultural, historic and environmental resources.

More information on continued impacts, detours and other updates is available on the project website.
