St. Croix Crossing Weekly Project Update (May 6, 2013)

STILLWATER, Minn. — St. Croix Crossing project crews this week will continue to construct the staging area for the bridge foundations on the Minnesota banks of the river, as well as do site preparation for road construction on Hwy 36 and Hwy 95 in Minnesota. Activities for the week of May 6 include:

Bridge foundations

  • Moving cranes and other equipment to the bridge project site

  • Constructing a dock wall to support equipment access

  • Ensuring barges are decontaminated before launching them into the river. Last week, Minnesota Department of Transportation and contractor inspectors found dead zebra mussels, an invasive species, on six barges that were transported to the project site via truck. MnDOT notified the Department of Natural Resources and is working with them and the contractor to ensure processes will protect the St. Croix River.

Hwy 36 and Hwy 95 approaches

  • Clearing land adjacent to Minnesota Hwy 95 in Oak Park Heights

  • Testing soil within the median of Hwy 36, between Hwy 95 and Northwestern Avenue

Looking ahead

  • 59th St. N., between Stagecoach Trail and Hwy 95, will permanently close on May 13.

  • Preconstruction surveys will begin and be ongoing throughout the project.

  • Construction of a parking lot on the east side of Phil’s Club Tara restaurant will begin in mid-May and be completed in mid-June, depending on weather and soil conditions.
