Public paddleboat tours to feature St. Croix Crossing construction up close

Project site visits begin May 31

Area residents and visitors can soon view St. Croix Crossing construction up close through a series of paddleboat site visits with St. Croix Boat & Packet. The first site visit will occur Saturday, May 31, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

“We know the public is quite interested in watching construction unfold, but safe access points to view it close-up from shore simply don’t exist,” St. Croix Crossing Project Director Jon Chiglo said. “This is an opportunity for the public to ask questions and learn what it takes to efficiently and effectively build this project.”

A Minnesota or Wisconsin Department of Transportation engineer will discuss St. Croix Crossing bridge work, Minnesota approach work and Wisconsin approach work underway. Information will include progress so far and 2014 construction plans. The new river crossing will open to traffic by fall 2016. Project staff will be present on the boat to answer questions.

Saturday tours will occur from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and Wednesday tours will occur from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Events are tentatively scheduled for the following dates.

  • Saturday, May 31
  • Wednesday, June 11
