Hwy 36/Osgood Avenue intersection six-day partial closure planned for late April/early May

Night work near Beach Road bridge begins week of April 14

The north side of the Highway 36/Osgood Avenue intersection will close for a six-day period between Highway 36 and the N. Frontage Road in late April/early May, weather permitting. Crews will complete utility work and repave the intersection.

During the closure, northbound and southbound traffic will not have access to and from Highway 36. However, eastbound and westbound traffic on Highway 36 and the N. Frontage Road will flow normally. Local resident and business access will be available at all times by following the posted detour (PDF) using the N. Frontage Road, Greeley Street and Highway 36.

Other St. Croix Crossing project work, both ongoing and upcoming, includes the following:

Night work near the Beach Road bridge

Night work near the Beach Road bridge is on track to begin the week of April 14. Construction activities include 24-hour crushing operations to recycle existing pavement. Crews do not anticipate hauling any materials during the overnight hours. Nearby residents and businesses may experience some visual and noise disruptions related to the night work. Work will cease from 7 a.m. Sunday to 7 a.m. Monday. This work will last for approximately three weeks; however, additional overnight work may occur throughout the construction season.

Land preparation work in Oak Park Heights and Stillwater

Land preparation work—including clearing trees and shrubs—is anticipated to occur near the Oakgreen Avenue/Greeley Street intersection beginning the week of April 14. Land preparation work on Highway 95 north of Highway 36 began this week. This work will be completed in approximately two to three weeks, weather permitting.

Sunnyside north driveway closure

Access to the north entrance of Sunnyside Marina will close on April 15 and reopen on April 18, weather permitting. During this closure, construction crews will complete utility work, and Sunnyside residents and marina users will need to use the south driveway entrance (PDF) off of Highway 95. When it reopns, the north driveway will be a gravel surface through mid-summer.

During 2014 construction, Highway 36 and Highway 95 in Minnesota will remain open. Access to businesses and residences will be available at all times.

WIS 35 overpass work

Crews have completed the concrete pour for the south footing of the new WIS 35 overpass over WIS 64. Topsoil and dirt removal for the nearby stormwater pond continues next week. In addition, crews will move operations to the north abutment footing to place concrete. Night work for this phase of Wisconsin approach work will end April 11.

Pier 9 construction work underway

With ice cleared from the Minnesota shoreline to Pier 9, crews are now building up Pier 9. Floating platforms adjacent to the piers are in place for crews and equipment to begin installing reinforcement bar and pouring concrete.

Construction of Piers 8 and 9 in the river, located closest to the Minnesota shoreline, can be viewed from the project’s webcam.

Minnesota approach work will be substantially complete by the end of 2014 and the new St. Croix Crossing bridge/Wisconsin approach work will be complete in late summer/early fall 2016. When all work is finished, motorists will have smoother highway pavement surfaces, improved flow at intersections, an improved frontage road system—including safer access—and a new river crossing between Minnesota and Wisconsin. All of this will occur while maintaining or restoring the area’s cultural, historic and environmental resources.
