St. Croix Crossing project announces schedule for 2015 public paddleboat tours

St. Croix Boat & Packet now taking reservations for May and June

March 3, 2015

STILLWATER, Minn. – The St. Croix Crossing project has announced the full schedule of public paddleboat tour dates for 2015. The paddleboat tours through Stillwater-based St. Croix Boat & Packet allow area residents and visitors to view St. Croix Crossing construction close-up.

The tours will offer much of the same format as in 2014, the event’s inaugural year. Minnesota and Wisconsin department of transportation engineers will discuss St. Croix Crossing bridge work and Wisconsin approach work underway. Information will include progress so far and 2015 construction plans. The new river crossing is anticipated to open to traffic in fall 2016. Project staff will be present on the boat to answer questions.

“We were pleasantly surprised by the popularity of the public boat tours last year and we’re excited to bring them back for this construction season,” said St. Croix Crossing Project Director Michael Beer. “The public boat tours offer an exceptional vantage point of bridge construction and there will be even more to see this year on the water.”

Tickets are on sale for May and June tour dates. Tickets sales for future dates will be staggered over the coming months to allow both new and returning customers to purchase tickets.

“We were pleased to see a lot of the same faces on multiple tours in 2014,” added Beer. “We also heard from many people who were unable to get a seat on the boat because the tours quickly sold out for the season. We hope by offering staggered ticket sales that we can reach more people who are interested in this historic construction project.”

In response to last year’s high demand, the project will offer three tours per month – an increase of one per month compared to the 2014 schedule. Wednesday tours will occur from 12:30 to 2 p.m. and again from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Saturday tours will occur from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Events are tentatively scheduled for the following dates, rain or shine:

  • Wednesday, May 27
  • Saturday, May 30
  • Wednesday, June 17
  • Saturday, June 20
  • Saturday, July 18
  • Wednesday, July 22
  • Saturday, Aug. 15
  • Wednesday, Aug. 19
  • Saturday, Sept. 19
  • Wednesday, Sept. 23
