Feb. 24, 2016

STILLWATER, Minn. – The St. Croix Crossing project has announced the full schedule of public paddleboat tour dates for 2016. The paddleboat tours through Stillwater-based St. Croix Boat & Packet allow area residents and visitors to view St. Croix Crossing construction close-up.

The project will offer three tours per month. Wednesday tours will occur from 12:30 to 2 p.m. and again from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Saturday tours will occur from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Events are scheduled for the following dates, rain or shine:

  • Wednesday, May 11
  • Saturday, May 21
  • Wednesday, June 15
  • Saturday, June 25
  • Saturday, July 16
  • Wednesday, July 27
  • Saturday, August 13
  • Wednesday, August 24
  • Saturday, September 10
  • Wednesday, September 14
  • Saturday, October 8

Go to www.stillwaterriverboats.com for reservation information and more details. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for children ages 4 to 12.

The tours will offer much of the same format as in previous years – the Minnesota and Wisconsin departments of transportation began offering the tours in 2014. Project engineers from both agencies will discuss St. Croix Crossing bridge work and Wisconsin approach work underway. Information will include progress so far and 2016 construction plans. The new river crossing is anticipated to open to traffic fall 2017. Project staff will be present on the boat to answer questions.

“The public boat tours of the St. Croix Crossing bridge construction site are historic and distinctive, just like this bridge, and that’s why we have seen so much interest from the public,” said St. Croix Crossing Project Director Michael Beer. “The public boat tours offer an exceptional vantage point of bridge construction. This year, the contractor anticipates work will occur simultaneously at all fiver river piers. There will be a lot of novel things to see for both new and returning attendees.”

Tickets are on sale for May and June tour dates. Tickets sales for future dates will be staggered over the coming months to allow both new and returning customers to purchase tickets.
