District 6 LPP Project Highlight

By: Mao Yang, Assistant Operations Engineer

Wabasha County and MnDOT District 6 leveraged Local Partnership Program (LPP) funds to implement safety improvements at the intersection of CSAH 27, CSAH 4, and Trunk Highway 42. The purpose of the project is to reduce crashes and meet the local community needs. The safety improvements on the project included eliminating the skew intersections by realigning the CSAH 27 and CSAH 4 legs with TH 42, reducing the number of legs from five to four, removing private entrances, and adding a turn lane at the intersection.

This project was selected by a committee of city, county, and MnDOT engineers in the district. The available funding from the LPP solicitation provided an opportunity for Wabasha County to advance the project forward with federal funds from the Highway Safety Improvement Program and local county funds.

Wabasha County was the lead on the safety project and worked through project development and construction award with the DSAE, Fausto Cabral, and LPP Project Manager, Craig Lenz.

For additional information about this project and how to get involve with the Local Partnership Program, please visit the LPP webpage or contact Craig Lenz at craig.lenz@state.mn.us or 507-286-7558.
