Mailbox Supports

A mailbox and its support are sometimes used for personal expression, but a review of Minnesota crash data provides a sobering reminder of the importance of crashworthy installations.  Crashes involving mailboxes accounted for over 2,700 incidents and 504 personal injuries from 2002-2011.

Steel tractor wheels, concrete filled cream cans and welded chain are only a few examples for existing installations that are candidates for replacement.  State Statue 169.072 considers any mailbox not meeting crashworthiness requirements a hazard and provides road authorities the ability to replace non-conforming installation.
