MCEA and the MCEA 10-Ton Committee directed SALT to contract for FWD testing and pavement materials data collection on approximately one-third of the CSAH system. The consultant team of Braun Intertec, American Engineering Testing and SRF Consulting Group, Inc. was selected. Each county identified CSAH mileage to be tested and provided pavement materials information, and work proceeded in 2009 / 2010.
There were several Local Road Research Board projects that tie to the statewide FWD testing project. The LRRB looked at traffic generation, vehicle classification, pavement design charts, and the development of a FWD “Analysis Tool”. The “Analysis Tool” was enhanced by Professor Jim Wilde of Minnesota State University, Mankato, to evaluate roadway strength using TONN 2010, overlay thickness calculating, and Spring Load Limit calculations.
