2006 National Safety Rest Area Conference

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT)
will host the 2006 National Safety Rest Area Conference in downtown Minneapolis.
Every two years a state transportation department holds the National Safety Rest
Area Conference. Past conferences were held in San Diego, Norfolk and San Antonio
and were hosted by CalTrans, VDOT and TxDOT respectively.
The conference is the premier venue for public
rest area planners, public welcome center managers, designers, rest area program
managers, facilities maintenance staff, contractors, vendors and transportation
officials from across the US and Canada to meet and learn best practices.
Mn/DOT expects the 2006 conference to cover topics
such as:
In addition to formal presentations from experts
in the field, attendees will have an opportunity to see a variety of Mn/DOT rest
areas, travel information centers and a public/private partnership Welcome Center
in Iowa during a one-day field trip.
An Exhibition Showcase will feature some of the
latest products and services from vendors and others involved with rest areas.
The conference has representation in the annual
meeting of the AASHTO Roadsides & Environment Task Force, of the Subcommittee
on Maintenance within the Standing Committee on Highways.

Spend Consecutive Weeks in the upper Midwest
2006 NRVMA Conference - Des Moines, Iowa
Des Moines is a pleasant 3.5 hour drive from
Minneapolis and Mn/DOT will happily coordinate transportation for Rest Area Conference
attendees to and from the National Roadside Vegetation Management Association
Conference.
The Iowa state association will hold the 2006 NRVMA Annual Conference in Des Moines,
Iowa from Wednesday, October 11 through Friday, October 13. Several tours of interest
are planned a few days before the conference so you may want to arrive a few days
early.

2006 ASLA Annual Meeting and the IFLA World Congress
This year, ASLA is teaming up with the International
Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) to throw the world’s largest event
for landscape professionals, the 2006 ASLA Annual Meeting & Expo and 43rd
IFLA World Congress, October 6-9, 2006, in Minneapolis. Registrants will have
access to both IFLA and ASLA events, including more than 80 extraordinary education
