Proposed passenger rail service between Minneapolis and Duluth, MN

Public meetings

Open houses were held in October 2016 to provide information about improvements that will be made to 43 “critical” at-grade railroad/roadway crossings (grade crossings) in the corridor as part of the NLX Project. These upgrades will improve safety and functionality at grade crossings. Open houses were held in Hinckley, Cambridge and Askov, Minn.; and Superior, Wis., as a large number of grade crossings are located in or near these cities. Approximately 75 community members and local media attended the open houses and viewed materials identifying plans for grade crossings, general project information and an update on the environmental review process. Drawings and models of various grade crossing warning device improvements were available. Participants were pleased to hear that the NLX Project does not plan to close any grade crossings and asked questions about individual crossing plans and improvements. Attendees expressed enthusiasm and support for NLX service and operations.
