MnDOT announces 2017 state aviation art contest winners
ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation announced the winners of the 2017 Minnesota Aviation Art Contest for students. Nine winners in three age categories (6−9, 10−13 and 14−17) were selected from 246 entries statewide.
Winners in each age category will receive certificates for a 30-minute introductory flight at their local airport.
An awards ceremony hosted by MnDOT and Delta Airlines, will occur Thursday, March 23, from 9:30−11 a.m., at Building C, 7500 Airline Drive, in Minneapolis.
The winning artwork advances to national competition in Washington, D.C. Winners there proceed to the International Aviation Art Contest, an event of the Federation Aeronautique Internationale and co-sponsored by the National Association of State Aviation Officials Center for Aviation Research, Education, and the National Aeronautics Association.
The annual art contest helps students learn about aviation through designing art based on a theme, which in 2017 is “Beyond the Clouds.”
MnDOT’s Office of Aeronautics promotes general and commercial aviation throughout the state and provides aircraft registration, airport development, aviation system planning and education. The office also maintains and operates aviation navigational systems and government aircraft services. Learn more at www.mndot.gov/aero.
