MnDOT sponsors workshop for veteran-owned small businesses
ST. PAUL, Minn.–Veteran small-business owners are invited to attend a workshop sponsored by the Minnesota Department of Transportation on Thursday, Jan., 31, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The workshop is at Hiway Federal Credit Union, 840 Westminster St., St. Paul. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m., or attendees can register at www.mnptac.org. The event is free, however MnDOT encourages attendees to register due to space limitations.
This workshop is part of the veterans outreach project, which includes statewide-training to identify and verify veteran-owned small businesses and increase their participation on state funded projects.
The workshop will provide insights regarding:
- Process for administering veteran preference at MnDOT and other state agencies
- Eligibility requirements for veteran-owned small businesses
- Overview of the veteran verification process
- Next steps for veteran businesses in Minnesota
- Upcoming state projects
- Networking with prime contractors and other key stakeholders
"MnDOT contracted out more than $200 million in state-construction projects in 2012 that included veteran-owned small businesses," said Alex Tittle, deputy director of MnDOT’s Office of Civil Rights. “This project provides the state with a tangible way to thank military veterans for their sacrifice and help improve employment conditions for veterans across Minnesota.”
