Mn/DOT’s State Fair booth to focus on safe, efficient and sustainable transportation system

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Mn/DOT will again have an exhibit at the Minnesota State Fair, which begins Aug. 27 and ends Labor Day, Sept. 7.

Located in the Education Building at 1372 Cosgrove St. (between the Fine Arts Center and the Creative Activities Building), Mn/DOT’s booth will provide fairgoers with a variety of transportation information, including the popular and recently updated state highway maps.

It also will give the public an opportunity to speak with Transportation Commissioner Tom Sorel, members of his management team and other Mn/DOT employees, who will staff the booth between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. daily.

"The Minnesota State Fair is a great opportunity for Mn/DOT to hear what’s on fairgoers’ minds," said Deputy Commissioner Khani Sahebjam, "And it’s a chance for us to talk about the ways the department is ensuring that transportation dollars are spent effectively to provide a safe, efficient and sustainable transportation system."

In addition, the booth will have an accessible pedestrian signal on hand to demonstrate how this traffic control device is used at road intersections to provide non-visual "WALK/DON’T WALK" directions to pedestrians with hearing and visual impairments.

"As part of our continued efforts to engage Minnesotans in the transportation process, Mn/DOT will invite visitors to fill out comment cards and a brief survey," Sahebjam said.

"Share the Road" bicycle safety information will be available in the Eco Experience "Kick Gas" exhibit in the Progress Center building north of the Education Building on Randall Avenue just east of Cooper Street. A “roundabout” floor mat will also be available in the exhibit where visitors can learn how to navigate these circular intersections being installed in some areas of Minnesota.
