Thirteen statewide rest areas to close temporarily due to road, project improvements

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Road construction projects, building rehabilitation and site improvement projects will temporarily close 13 rest areas and travel information centers around the state during this and next construction seasons, the Minnesota Department of Transportation said today.

5. Big Spunk Safety Rest Area - On I-94 eastbound, 1.5 miles west of the Avon interchange. The main building will close for four weeks, about Nov. 30, 2009, for rehabilitation and other site improvements. Limited parking and portable toilet facilities will be provided during this period.

9. Straight River Southbound Safety Rest Area - On I-35 southbound, seven miles south of Owatonna. The center will close for two weeks, about Nov. 30, 2009, for site work and building improvements. Limited parking and portable toilet facilities will be provided during this period.

10. Thompson Hill Travel Information Center - Off I-35 near Highway 2 in Duluth. The main building will close for four weeks, about Nov. 30, 2009, for building rehabilitation and site improvements.
