West River Parkway under I-35W bridge project scheduled to open Sept. 29
Project to reach substantial completion tomorrow

MINNEAPOLIS – The West River Parkway under the new I-35W bridge is scheduled to open Monday, Sept. 29 at 5 a.m. as part of the final project work, according to Minnesota Department of Transportation officials.

Traffic under the bridge will be restricted to one lane during daylight hours next week to allow construction crews to finish minor incidental completion work around the bridge piers and along the parkway. Motorists are urged to drive carefully through the work zone.

The project may also reach substantial completion tomorrow, Sept. 25. Substantial completion means that all major work on the project is complete and the roadway is open to traffic. Remaining tasks to be completed include minor, incidental work such as painting touch up, completion of the observation decks and minor landscaping.

Flatiron-Manson will be eligible to receive an early completion incentive of $18 million. There is also a $7 million “no-claim” incentive that Flatiron-Manson can claim within 30 days after reaching substantial completion. To earn this incentive, Flatiron-Manson must decide that it will not ask Mn/DOT for more money to cover any unanticipated costs.
