Minneapolis, Minn. – The Flatiron-Manson construction team will begin work on the new St. Anthony Falls I-35W Bridge project this week, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The following work is scheduled for the week of Oct. 29:
• Concrete demolition on the south side of the Mississippi River at the old pier No. 6 site, next to the Army Corps of Engineers lock wall, will begin Tuesday, Oct. 30. Lighting towers will light the work area at river level. Work will take place from 7 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. (two separate shifts), Monday through Saturday.
• On Thursday, Nov. 1, crews will begin drilling a test shaft on the north side of the river, near the new Pier No. 3. A diesel-powered drill rig will be used to drill the shaft. Construction lighting will also be emplaced at river level at this site. Hours of operation are from 7 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. (two separate shifts) Monday through Saturday.
• Beginning Monday, Nov. 5, the construction team will begin “H” beam pile driving. Pile driving, which requires a steel driver to pound a steel pile into the ground, generates significant noise. This activity will take place only between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
Mn/DOT has also established a hotline for the project. Citizens who have questions or comments about the project can call 612-236-6901 to get more information.
More information on the project, and other Mn/DOT information is available at the Mn/DOT website at www.mndot.gov.
