Cells 2, 3, 4, X05, and X06: HMA shoulders were paved.

Monday, September 11, 2017
Newly constructed NRRA mainline I-94 sections: Contractor performed final grading prior to aggregate shouldering placement.

Tuesday, September 12, 2017

No construction activity.

Wednesday, September 13, 2017
Site wide: Water blasting of new concrete sections to remove curing compound for striping.
Cells X39: MnROAD personnel conducted dynamic load testing of the new concrete test sections.
Cells X05/X06: Contractor placed aggregate shouldering.

Thursday, September 14, 2017
Westbound mainline I-94: MnDOT personnel performed striping of the mainline in preparation for Monday’s traffic switch. Contractor installed turf establishment items.

Friday, September 15, 2017
No construction activity.

Look-ahead high points:

  • Traffic was switched on to the westbound mainline I-94 test sections this morning (Monday, September 18).
  • Cells X28 recon: Contractor performing final shaping and compaction operations on Class 5Q aggregate base. MnDOT personnel plan to perform final geotechnical point tests this afternoon.
  • Cells 185/186/188/189, X27/X28, and X35: Final placement of HMA surfacing is scheduled for the morning of Tuesday, September 19.
  • Cells 983-995: Asphalt overlay work on the original westbound concrete lanes will begin as soon as traffic is switched over. Activities for the week of September 18 include:
    • MnROAD personnel will install joint opening sensors in four of the asphalt overlay sections.
    • Contractor will perform pre-overlay milling of tapers and patching on Tuesday.
    • Uretek USA will perform pre-overlay slab support stabilization in Cell 994 on Wednesday and Thursday.
  • Currently, HMA paving of Cells 984-995 is anticipated the week of October 2.
  • Concrete pavement rehab experiments:
    • Contractor (PCI) plans to remove materials for spall repairs September 25-26.
    • MnDOT Maintenance crews will place patching September 27-29
