Cell 506: CSM paved concrete, control mix, no fibers.


Cell 606: MnROAD personnel doing final sensor prep.
Cell X24: Base is complete, compacted and trimmed. FWD testing and final riser extension. Ingios performed intelligent compaction (IC) mapping run.
Cell X39: Hauling, placing and working clay loam (A-6) fill.
Cells 27, 88 and 89: Currently have pavement removed in outer lane.
Cells 27 and 28: In slope top soil is stripped. No work here today.
Cell X05: MnROAD personnel placing conduit to cabinet on access road.

Cell 606: CSM paved concrete, first fiber mix, lowest dosage.
Cell X05: MnROAD personnel installed conduits from handholes through shoulder to pavement core holes.
Cell X39: Subgrade toleranced. Ingios performed IC mapping. FWD testing. Hauling and spreading agg base. Collected aggregate base samples for research. Watering and compacting base.
Cell X24: Penetration Index acceptance testing on aggregate base. Sensor placement and pulling cable.

Rains today. Paving on Cell 706 postponed. No other construction activity.

Thursday, June 29, 2017
Cell 706: CSM paved concrete, second fiber mix, medium dosage.
Cells X24: MnROAD personnel performing final sensor installation work in preparation for paving next week.

Friday, June 30, 2017
Cell 806: Paving of the fourth in this series (highest fiber content) of subsections was completed today.
Cells X38 and X39: Grade deemed too soft for final trimming, FWD testing, and Ingios IC mapping. Postponed until next week. MnROAD personnel installing handholes and conduit.
Cells X24: MnROAD personnel performing final prep for paving next week.

Look-ahead

  • Note that there are some modifications that will be coming out in the version next week. Most notably, the schedule shows paving of Cells X38 and X39 occurring on the same day (Friday, July 7, 2017). Most likely this will not be the case as Cells X39 are fiber mix. CSM informed us that they plan on paving X38 first, Friday, July 7, 2017. Cells X39 will likely then be paved Saturday, July 8, or the following week.
  • Concrete paving in the Cell X24 series (early loading tests) is planned for Wednesday, July 5, 2017.
  • Removal and excavation operations for the NRRA Geotechnical sections (Cells X27/X28=large-sized subbase and Cells 18X=recycled base) are planned for the week of July 10. The week of July 17 would be the soonest that the subgrade would be available for geotechnical testing and sensor installations. Note that the procurement of large-size subbase will not occur until early August. The construction of aggregate bases in the 18X recycled base sections (for which materials are readily available) is likely to occur before that. I will keep this group apprised of the progress of excavation activities in these areas.
  • Construction of the NRRA PM sections (micro-surface and thinlays in Cells X01/X15) is anticipated late July.
  • Striping of the new NRRA mainline sections is anticipated early August. A traffic switch will occur after that so that construction of the NRRA HMA overlay sections on original WB I-94 lanes can take place.
