Cell X24: CSM paved concrete today. MnROAD personnel conducted early life load testing throughout the day. This included passage of a ¾-ton pickup approximately 2 hours after placement (to induce visible damage) and loaded tandem snow plow truck (to evaluate effects of curing on pavement response) throughout the remainder of the day.

Cell X38: CSM worked subgrade and base, compacted and trimmed.
Cells X24: MnROAD personnel extracted cores, performed MIRA testing, and recorded MIT-SCAN T2 measurements.

Friday, July 7, 2017
Cell X38 and X39: MnROAD personnel performing FWD testing, sensor/conduit layouts, and installation. Ingios on site in the morning to perform IC mapping.
Cells X24: MnROAD personnel continue early load testing with loaded tandem plow truck.
Cells X05: Sweeping operations.

Look-ahead

  • Concrete paving of Cells X38 and X39 (on separate days) is planned for late next week with X38 being paved first.
  • Preparation (sweeping) of the existing concrete pavement for Cells X05 is is complete. MnROAD personnel require some time both before and after the fabric bond breaker is installed (currently scheduled for July 17). Paving the unbonded concrete overlay is scheduled for late in the the week of July 17.
  • Removal and excavation operations for the NRRA Geotechnical Cells 185, 186, 188, and 189 (recycled base) are planned for the week of July 10. The week of July 17 would be the soonest that the subgrade would be available for geotechnical testing and sensor installations.
  • Milling of inplace bituminous for NRRA Geotechnical Cells 127, 227, 128, and 228 is scheduled for late in the week of July 17. Excavation operations are not shown on the schedule at this time. This is due to the fact that the large-sized aggregate for subbase in these cells will not be available until early August.
  • Construction of the NRRA PM sections (micro-surface and thinlays in Cells X01/X15) will possibly take place the week of July 24.
  • Striping of the new NRRA mainline sections is anticipated early August. A traffic switch will occur after that so that construction of the NRRA HMA overlay sections on original WB I-94 lanes can take place.
  • Concrete paving is scheduled for Cells 138/238 (8 inch slab, optimized mix) this Friday, July 14, at 7:00 am.
  • Concrete paving of Cells 139/239 (3 and 4 inch slabs, fiber reinforced mix) on Monday, July 17th at 7:00 am.
  • The CP Tech Center is planning to be at MnROAD with its testing trailer Friday, July 14.
