Traffic impacts

Bridge closures

• Portland Avenue Bridge is closed between East 15th Street and East 18 Street.
• Park Avenue Bridge is closed between East 17th Street and East 18th Street will close.

Both bridges will re-open in early August.

Detours for bridge closures

• Park Avenue traffic will be detoured to Chicago Avenue and back via Franklin Avenue and 17th Street
• Portland Avenue will be modified into a two way street between Franklin Avenue and 18th

Pedestrian/Bicyclist Closures

Pedestrian/bicycle routes on the Portland and Park Avenue Bridges will be closed during construction. Pedestrians and cyclists should follow the detour routes.

About this project

Purpose

To preserve the bridge decks on the Park Avenue and Portland Avenue Bridges spanning I-94 and I-35W in Minneapolis.

Description

• Construct new bridge decks and railings
• Replace bridge beams
• Reconstruct the approach panels on the north and south sides of each bridge
• Upgrade pedestrian crossings at the intersections of Park Avenue and Portland Avenue at 17th Street and at 18th Street to meet modern accessibility standards

Cost

• $5.7 million
