Description
- Reconstruct Xerxes Avenue Bridge spanning I-494
- Add a westbound auxiliary lane between Nicollet Avenue and Portland Avenue and between I-35W and Hwy 100
- Resurface I-494 and ramps between 34th Avenue and Hwy 100
- Resurface frontage roads
- Reconstruct median
- Utilize movable barrier for maximum efficiency when setting up and removing lane closures during non-rush hours
Purpose/Benefits
- Improved ride quality for motorists will be increased
- Improved traffic flow
- Reduced maintenance needs from replacing guard rail with concrete median barrier
- Future opportunities to match local development goals for the area due to replacement of the Xerxes Avenue Bridge
Traffic Impacts (exact dates and durations to be determined)
Five weekend full closures of I-494 will occur
Anticipated in 2012:
- Weekend closure of I-494 at Xerxes Avenue
Anticipated in 2013:
- Weekend closure of eastbound I-494 between I-35W and Hwy 77
- Weekend closure of westbound I-494 between I-35W and Hwy 77
- Weekend closure of eastbound I-494 between Hwy 100 and I-35W
- Weekend closure of westbound I-494 between Hwy 100 and I-35W
Temporary closures of the following ramps will occur during the project
- Portland Avenue to westbound I-494
- Westbound I-494 to Nicollet Avenue
- Northbound I-35W to westbound I-494
- Westbound I-494 to southbound I-35W
- Southbound I-35W to westbound I-494
- Westbound I-494 to Penn Avenue.
- Penn Avenue to westbound I-494
- Westbound I-494 to France Avenue
- France Avenue to westbound I-494
- More ramp closures TBD
Long-term closures of the inside and outside shoulders will occur, as well as non-rush lane closures as needed.
