About this project
Convert an eastbound bypass lane on Hwy 97 into a dedicated left turn lane. The left turn lane addition will allow motorists a safer option when traveling eastbound on Hwy 97 to northbound 11th St.
Removing left turning vehicles from through traffic lane will provide a place to wait and yield to oncoming traffic. The project will improve safety by reducing the potential for future rear-ends crashes.
This project is part of a "Fixing America's Surface Transporation Act" from 2015 that provided Minnesota with additional funds to spend on highway projects.
Before project work can begin, MnDOT is required by statute to have authorization from the state legislature before it can spend the extra funds. That authorization has not gone through as of January 2017. Therefore this project may be delayed.
For complete details about the FAST Act and this delay, you may view the notification.
