Benefits
Safety, capacity and mobility issues along the highway in Lindstrom will be improved.
- This reconstruction will increase the current capacity of the highway and improve safety.
- Improvements were made because traffic levels on Hwy 8 in Lindstrom were over-capacity. The Lindstrom segment of Hwy 8 carries the highest volumes of traffic. This high volume of traffic has resulted in higher crash rates than on other areas of Hwy 8.
- Pedestrian facilities, including trails and sidewalks, were constructed on both sides of Hwy 8 between County Road 14 and Akerson Street.
- New traffic signals are in place at County Road 14 (Lincoln Road), County Road 20 (North Lakes Trail), County Road 25 (Olinda Trail) and at Akerson Street.
- A new bridge was built over a channel connecting North Lindstrom and South Lindstrom Lakes. The bridge provides an important access for boaters who frequent these two lakes, which are part of the Chain of Lakes System.
- Frontage roads in some areas will improve safety by removing direct driveway access to Hwy 8.
