About the Project
Anticipated Traffic Impacts
- May 3: Project begins in Fridley/Columbia Heights. Non-rush hour lane closures will occur throughout the project as crews move south.
- May 4-6: Southbound Hwy 65 between 49th Avenue and 45th Avenue will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday until 8 a.m. Sunday for pipe work. Detour: Westbound 49th Avenue NE to southbound University Avenue NE to westbound 44th Avenue NE to southbound Hwy 65
- One weekend full closure of both directions of Hwy 65 will occur between Spring Street and Broadway Street for pipe work (exact dates to be determined).

Purpose
The project will provide a smoother ride for motorists and restore pavement structure. Guardrails, drainage and other improvements will be included to provide continued safety and roadway quality. Pedestrian accessibility will be improved at intersections through curb cuts, truncated domes and signal system upgrades.
Description
- MnDOT is coordinating the provisions of bicycle facilities on Highway 65 with the city of Minneapolis
- Resurfacing from Washington Ave. to 14th Ave. NE, 18th Ave. to 27th Ave. and from 37th Ave. NE to 53rd Ave. NE
- Storm sewer drainage repairs
- Accessibility upgrades at 51 intersections, including curb ramps and truncated domes (raised bumps on the sidewalk surface to indicate an intersection)
- Bridge repairs
- Guardrail improvements
- Traffic signal upgrades
