A significant portion of the work will affect traffic and is likely to result in congestion. Expect temporary lane closures and detours as work is completed.

Current

Sat, June 11 through late-summer

  • Access from NB 61 to EB Hwy 97 is closed and detoured (see below)

Mar. 29 through late-Aug.

  • Both directions of Hwy 61 between the north intersection of Hwy 97/Scandia Trl and 202nd St traffic will be reduced to a single lane on the east side of the road.


    Hwy 97 Detour:
    210th St. to Goodview Ave.

    • Note: NB Hwy 61 to EB Hwy 97 will be allowed until June 10. After that date, motorists will  also use the detour.

About this project

Hwy 61/Forest Lake Blvd N. between 210th St. and just north of Scandia Trail N. is a heavily traveled road in Forest Lake. This mile-long section of road runs directly in front of Forest Lake High School. MnDOT will be reconstructing the north and south intersections of this segment of highway to enhance traffic flow in the area.

Construction schedule

Spring 2016

  • Shift traffic to finish constructing roundabouts
  • Reconstruct existing Hwy 97 and southbound Hwy 61
  • Pave roundabouts, existing Hwy 97 and Hwy 61
  • Build driveway access for the school
  • Construct pedestrian bridge and trails

2015 construction completed

  • Aligned and graded new northbound Hwy 61
  • Built portions of the south and north roundabouts
  • Set pedestrian bridge piers and land supports
  • Constructed temporary business access road
  • Built temporary crossover area
  • Resurfacing Forest Blvd

Summary of work

  • Remove signals and construct roundabouts
  • Construct a pedestrian bridge
  • Replace storm drains and other infrastructure
  • Improve pedestrian and bicycle facilities
  • Upgrade intersection lighting
