Hwy 36 and English Street Project

Traffic impacts

All dates are subject to change and are dependent on the weather.

June 17- mid-Aug
Both directions of Hwy 36 between Hwy 61 and White Bear Avenue are closed for 75 days. Please follow the posted detour (PDF, 84 KB).
June 20- Sept 28
- Westbound Hwy 36 between Hwy 61 and Edgerton Street will be reduced to a single lane beginning at 6 a.m.
- Eastbound Hwy 36 between Hwy 61 and Edgerton Street will be reduced to a single lane at 12 noon.
Currently- late-Aug
English street is closed between Hwy 36 and Cope Avenue until late August. The closure is needed to improve safety. Please follow the posted detours.
Access to English Street from Hwy 36 is closed.
Gervais Avenue between Viking Drive and Harvest Park is closed to through traffic.
The right turn lane from eastbound Hwy 36 to southbound English is closed permanently. Traffic will be detoured via Atlantic St, Cope Ave, and English St.

March- June: Hwy 36 retaining wall construction
April- May: County Road B and Frontage Road will be constructed
April- mid-June: Bruce Vento Trail bridge will be constructed and realigned. There will be a short-term closure of the trail as the new bridge is aligned
May- mid-June: County Road B Trail will be constructed

Mid-June- late-August: Hwy 36 will be closed as Highway 36 and ramps at Hwy 61 and English are constructed

Project clean-up and remaining restoration and maintenance work may carry over into spring 2014.

Replace the Hwy 36/English Street signalized intersection with a diamond interchange
Improve CR B/Hwy 61 intersection
Remove existing access to Hwy 36 at Hazelwood and Atlantic Streets
Replace Vento Trail pedestrian and bicycle bridge

This project was awarded to Forest Lake Contracting on Dec. 13, 2012 for a cost of $17.3 million.
