Project update
This project was awarded to Forest Lake Contracting on Dec. 13, 2012 for a cost of $17.3 million. Please continue to check back for updated information, including our upcoming public open house.
Purpose
The vision for Hwy 36 through Ramsey County is for it to become a “limited access freeway” to improve safety and traffic flow. Recently completed Hwy 36 improvements have left English Street as the remaining signalized intersection on the corridor between Hwy 120 and I-35W.
MnDOT and the City of Maplewood have analyzed traffic and access needs for Hwy 36 between Hazelwood Avenue and Hwy 61, including the signal at English Street. The study, completed in January 2008, considered many alternatives and concluded that a diamond interchange would allow for the elimination of the signal at English Street while providing reasonable business and property access.
Benefits
- Improved safety and efficiency along the Hwy 36 corridor in Maplewood
- Improved pedestrian and bicycle facilities
