Description:
- Bridge Replacement, Resurfacing, and Drainage
2009 Hwy 280/Larpenteur Ave Bridge- Project Completed
Update:
Work on Hwy 280 in the cities of St. Paul, Lauderdale and Roseville was completed the week of December 7. The project rebuilt the aging Larpenteur Ave. bridge crossing Hwy 280 in Lauderdale and rehabilitated the concrete pavement between I-94 and Territorial Ave. A temporary signal system at Broadway St. was upgraded to a permanent system. (The temporary signal system at Broadway St. allowed for reopening the intersection which had been closed since August 2007).
The project also included:
- Replacement of the BNSF Railroad bridge located on Larpenteur Ave. to the west of Hwy 280
- Placement of a median on the Hwy 280 from south of Como Ave. to Larpenteur Ave.
- Installation of new storm sewer and ponding
- Permanent closure of access at County Road B and
- Noisewalls along the east side of Hwy 280.
The city of Roseville also installed a new sanitary sewer system on the west side of Larpenteur Ave. north of Broadway St.
Milestones:
- The Larpenteur Ave. Bridge (which was demolished in mid-May) reopened Oct. 20.
- The ramp from Hwy 36 to southbound Hwy 280 reopened Nov. 10
- Broadway St. re-opened on Nov. 23
Project benefits:
Replacement of the Larpenteur Ave. bridge has brought the bridge up to current design standards and improved access between Hwy 280 and Broadway St. as well as improved mobility for motorists, bicycles and pedestrians. Repair work on Hwy 280 between I-94 in St. Paul and Territorial Ave. in Roseville provides a much smoother ride for motorists. Noisewalls along the highway will reduce traffic noise in the neighborhoods east of Hwy 280 and new storm sewer and holding ponds will improve drainage of stormwater from the highway.
