Project History and Background
The Hwy 169 and County Hwy 30/93rd Ave N intersection is known for safety and congestion problems. These problems likely will increase due to the completion of the Hwy 169 Triangle Project and the Hwy 610 Extension Project. Brooklyn Park, Mn/DOT, Hennepin County and Osseo have partnered to identify proposed options to reconstruct this location.
Purpose
- To develop alternatives for enhancing safety and congestion
Need
- The intersection ranks in the top 10 in the state and has a higher crash rate ($1.2 million/year) than similar intersections in the Twin Cities Metro
- Traffic signals are becoming less effective due to increasing traffic in the area
- The removal of Hwy 169 traffic signals to the north (Hwy 610 Project) and south (Triangle Project) will likely increase the current safety and congestion problems
The project team developed and analyzed several options for reconstructing this intersection and picked a preferred alternative. View the Nov. 10, 2010 open house presentation of the discussed alternatives.
Project Description
Intersection conversion to interchange includes
- Bridging County Hwy 30/93rd Ave N over Hwy 169 to the north of the existing intersection
- Constructing loop ramps in the northeast and northwest quadrants of the interchange for access to and from Hwy 169 to the south
- Providing access to St. Vincent’s Cemetery, retaining full access at Xylon Avenue and minimizing right of way impacts
- Signalizing the ramp intersections
- Providing eight-foot trails along both sides of 93rd Avenue N. through the project area. View the design layout for the preferred alternative.
