Three projects will improve Hwy 13 between Mendota and Lilydale

See project map

Project One – COMPLETE

The first project was completed in fall 2011. It installed a new traffic signal system, turn lanes and sections of sidewalk near the Hwy 13/I-35E interchange. The signals increase safety and mobility for pedestrians and bicyclists while moving traffic through the intersection with the use of optimized signal timing and a flashing yellow arrow for left turns.

Traffic forecasts indicate that traffic will back up onto southbound I-35E by the year 2015 with no traffic signals installed.
All new pedestrian facilities are ADA compliant.

Project Two – to be completed in 2012
The second project completed the sidewalk near the Hwy 13/I-35E intersection in front of the Holiday Station.
This work was bundled into a larger project that resurfaced, repaired and upgraded most of Hwy 13 between I-35W in Burnsville and Annapolis Street in West St. Paul.

Project Three – scheduled for 2015

The third project is tentatively scheduled for summer 2015. The project will resurface the roadway along the “exception area” depicted in this map and improve the drainage system to address problems with hillside washouts that can occasionally force Hwy 13 to close. The goal is install infrastructure that will dry out the roadbed and improve above-ground drainage to reduce icing and occasional slow-draining or standing water on/near the roadway.

The Regional Trail will likely require short term closures as work is completed. More detailed information will be issued as it becomes available.
