UPDATE - November 7, 2008
Long awaited Hwy 12 bypass to open in Long Lake, Orono
With winter nipping at our heels, work continues unabated on the new Hwy 12 project in Long Lake and Orono. And motorists awaiting the long-anticipated opening of the new Hwy 12 bypass will not have much longer to wait.
Although the new highway alignment is expected to open up around Thanksgiving, additional work will remain on the east side of the project at Wayzata Boulevard and on the west side at Hennepin County Road 6. The Luce Line bridge also remains to be completed.
Retaining walls are complete but the retaining wall fieldstone will be painted next spring. Concrete paving has begun and bituminous paving will start early next week. Grading will continue.
All bridges are decked and overlays complete but additional work remains for bridges including: barrier, sidewalk, painting and railing and bridge deck planing.
UPDATE - July 22, 2008

The contractor is currently constructing the deck on the land bridge carrying traffic over the west end of the project.
Hwy 12 construction east end: Construction on the bridge carrying traffic from Wayzata Boulevard to eastbound Hwy 12 is progressing. The construction of the pier and the two abutments is complete and the beams have been set. The contractor is in the process of forming the deck for the bridge and has begun the construction of the retaining wall off each end of the bridge. Grading operations continues to be ongoing.
The overall schedule for the project contained on the website remains in effect. The schedule for opening Hwy 12 is late November of 2008.
