- The proposed detour will be Wayzata Boulevard to County Road 101 to Highway 12.
- This stage will remove the existing median on Highway 12, construct temporary widening of westbound Highway 12 east of Wayzata Boulevard, construct a portion of the new Highway 12, construct Wayzata Boulevard, and remove the signal at the intersection of Highway 12 and Wayzata Boulevard.

Stage 2
- Traffic was diverted to the northern portion of existing Highway 12.
- Wayzata Boulevard will be opened for right turns onto Wayzata Boulevard from westbound Highway 12 and for right turns from Wayzata Boulevard to westbound Highway 12.
- This stage will construct the ramp from eastbound Highway 12 to the new eastbound Highway 12, including a bridge and retaining walls. It also constructed the remainder of the new Highway 12 and connect into the existing Highway 12.
- This stage began in November of 2007 and was completed in November 2008.
This project also removed the existing Luce Line Trail Bridge over existing Highway 12 and replaced it with a salvaged bridge from the previous contract. This work required that existing Highway 12 be closed for periods of time to remove the existing bridge and install the new bridge. This work was dependent upon the Highway 12 bypass being open with all movements at the County Road 6 interchange being available. This stage began in April of 2009 and be completed in May of 2009.
It is anticipated that this project will be complete by June 2009.
