The I-694 E to W project involves the reconstruction of I-694 between I-35W in New Brighton and I-35E in Vadnais Heights. The 5-mile long corridor also passes through the communities of Arden Hills, Shoreview and Little Canada.

In preparing for the Unweave the Weave interchange reconstruction project, Mn/DOT initiated development of I-694 Architectural and Aesthetic Design Guidelines (AADG). These guidelines establish the architectural character or theme for this highway corridor, and provides guidance for the appearance of the reconstructed elements within the corridor. These include:

• Bridges
• Noise Barriers
• Retaining Walls
• Grading
• Signing
• Lighting
• Landscaping
• Traffic Barriers
• Fencing
• Storm Water Ponds
• Transit Facilities
• Pedestrian & Bicycle Facilities

While the limits of the Unweave the Weave project are generally confined to the I-694/I-35E interchange, the limits of the AADG extend from I-694 at the Mississippi River in Fridley to the I-694/I-94 interchange in Oakdale, and are over 20 miles in length.
