Background

The following pieces of the I-694 North Central project are complete:

I-694/Hwy 10/Snelling and Hamline Avenues

Major reconstruction of the I-694/Hwy 10 interchange at Snelling Avenue/Hwy 51 and Hamline Avenue in Arden Hills was completed in November 2013. The project began in September 2011 and was one of nine projects planned for the I-694 North Central area, which also includes Shoreview, New Brighton and Mounds View.

The project consisted of

  • Reconstructing surrounding highways
  • Rebuilding bridges in the corridor
  • Separating I-694 and Hwy 10
  • Replacing right entrances and left exits to conform to current standards
  • Improving safety and mobility

Highway 10 and Highway 96/ Hwy 10 Diagonal between I-35W and I-694

A new interchange at Ramsey County Road 96 and Hwy 10 was built in 2013. Ramsey County Road 96 was lowered to allow Hwy 10 to travel over County Road 96.

Concrete resurfacing of the Hwy 10 diagonal between I-694 and I-35W also was completed in 2013. The new roadway provides a smoother, longer-lasting surface. It was done during work on the Hwy 10/County Road 96 interchange to take advantage of the closure.

Hwy 10 and County Road 10 Bridges spanning I-35W

Two new bridges at I-35W were constructed in 2012 to carry Hwy 10 and County Road 10 traffic over I-35W. The new structures opened to traffic in the fall 2012.

Lexington Avenue Bridge over I-694

The Lexington Avenue Bridge over I-694 in Arden Hills was widened 10 feet on the east side. The new bridge features new left-turn lanes; an improved bicycle/pedestrian lane; an improve signal system and rebuilt and widened ramps to and from the freeway. Construction for this project took place May - July 2012.

Highway 10 bridges over I-694

The Hwy 10/County Rd 10 bridges over I-694 were removed and rebuilt. Drainage was also improved. Construction for this project took place June- November 2012.
