Weekend closure of I-94 between Hwy 280 and I-35E scheduled for April 3-6
I-94 will close Friday, April 3 at 10 p.m. and reopen by Monday, April 6 at 5 a.m.
Interstate 94 in Saint Paul will close next weekend between Highway 280 and Interstate 35E for work on Ramsey County’s Dale Street reconstruction project. Both eastbound and westbound I-94 will close at 10 p.m. on Friday, April 3, for removal of the northbound (east) side of the existing Dale Street bridge over I-94.
All I-94 ramps at Cretin Avenue/Vandalia Street, Snelling Avenue, Lexington Parkway and Marion Street will also be closed.
Eastbound motorists will be detoured on northbound Highway 280 to eastbound Highway 36 to southbound Interstate 35E to I-94.
Westbound motorists will be detoured on northbound I-35E to westbound Highway 36 to Southbound Highway 280 to I-94.
Motorists should plan ahead for additional travel time and use an alternate route when possible.
Both directions of I-94 will reopen by 5 a.m. on Monday, April 6.
One additional weekend closure of this stretch of I-94 is planned for later this year to allow for removal of the west side of the bridge.
Dale Street – including the bridge over I-94 – will remain open. Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction.
The Dale Street reconstruction project began in mid-March and includes rebuilding and widening the bridge over Interstate 94 – including widening the sidewalks to 16 feet to improve safety for pedestrians and bicyclists. Construction of the new bridge is expected to be complete by late fall 2020.
